Welcome all students and teachers to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

The wizarding world is full of mysteries, and as you RP as a student you will come to learn of the rich history of Hogwarts, the magical realm, and the existence of magic alongside the Muggle (or non-magical human) world. Of course, you will also be learning and mastering spells, potions, and other skills that will prepare you for your futures. You will have the option to try out for our House Quidditch teams, or to form an organization of your own...with the help of your Professors, of course.

You will be sorted into one of the four Houses (if you have not been already, you non-first years who are reading this), and will work as one in competition for the House Cup. Any achievements will earn you points, while rulebreaking and foul play will result in the loss of points. Your Houses will be like your family for your time here, so work together and treat each other well.

Our Professors are in charge of shaping the minds of the students here at Hogwarts. Each will be assigned one or more classes to teach, and their students' Houses will vary.

Students will sign up for their courses before the beginning of each new term. These courses, aside from the required ones, should be ones that aide in the future career you desire or that interest you.

In this modern day and age, we are blessed with an era of peace and quiet co-existence with the Muggle world. However, one must always be cautious and prepared for any future events. We strongly urge you to follow the rules, and above all to always keep alert.

More detailed information about the locations throughout the castle, castle grounds, Hogsmeade, etc., can be found in each respective location.We hope that you will enjoy your stay. If you have any questions, please contact the Professor, or ask one of your fellow Prefects for help.

There are floors that go above this level, like the astronomy tower, the spire of the main tower building, and the Gryffindor towers, but there are no classes there. These maps are made based off the movies and can be used for reference, if you'd like.

ABOUT HOGWARTS SCHOOL

Hogwarts Castle is a large, seven-story high building supported by magic, with many towers and turrets and very deep dungeons. It is located in the Scottish Highlands, near the all-wizard village of Hogsmeade and "not far" from Dufftown, in Banffshire.

The school is protected by the most powerful spells and charms that make it Unplottable--a Muggle passing by would only see a pile of rubble and a "Danger" sign.

The protective magic over Hogwarts is not only strong enough to apparently resist the dispelling effects of the Taboo but also to repel even talented dark wizards. It also prevents Apparition and Disapparition on the grounds. As a result of all the magic that occurs on premises (both from learning students, magical artefacts therein and the enchantments cast over the building itself) a magical atmosphere pervades the entire structure, causing any technology that is not adapted to run off of it (like Colin Creevey's camera) to fail.

Children with magical abilities may be enrolled at birth and acceptance is confirmed by Owl post at age eleven. There are roughly 1,000 students attending the school at any given time.

The school's motto is "Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus", or "Never tickle a sleeping dragon."

A BRIEF HISTORY

Established in c. 9th/10th century, Hogwarts is considered one of the finest magical institutions in the wizarding world, though other schools include Beauxbatons Academy of Magic and the Durmstrang Institute.

Hogwarts was founded around 990 A.D. by two wizards and two witches: Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin. They each represented an aspect of wizarding that they wanted to bring out in new students.

About three hundred years after the school was founded, the Triwizard Tournament began between the three most prestigious magical schools in Europe: Hogwarts, the Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, and the Durmstrang Institute. This tournament was considered the best way for wizards of different nationalities to meet and socialise. The tournament continued for six centuries, until the death toll became too high, and the tournament was discontinued.

The existence of the school was threatened twice when the Chamber of Secrets (secretly founded by Salazar Slytherin before his departure from Hogwarts) was opened. The first instance was in 1942, and the second was in 1992.
