Mutant Abilities: Emilie possesses the ability to control matter in its gaseous state. This includes anything from water vapor to more complex gasses such as carbon monoxide, knock out gas, and even acid. She has the abilities to store these gasses within her body, granting her an immunity to the effects of various gasses, and can even mix these gasses together within her body to create other new gasses for various purposes. As a result, the things she can accomplish with the mist she radiates is anywhere between melting down a wall with acid to rendering others unconscious. When particularly agitated, she may even be able to extend her control to oxygen itself, effectively suffocating individuals around her. As a result, it is imperative that she learns to control her powers as soon as possible. Emilie also possesses the ability to transform her body into a gaseous state, and is able to use this form to slip through tight places, fly, and so on.

Personality: Emilie is an intelligent girl with a gift for quick thinking. She has a big heart and is very sociable, and often finds enjoyment spending time with others. However, she can tend to be a worrywart. She is very observant and often wonders about the state of the world. Emilie can be easily embarrassed but secretly enjoys the attention of others, though her lack of public recognition of this fact comes from the emphasis she places on aesthetics. She is a gambler and not afraid to take chances should she think a situation will work in her favor. Because of the nature of her powers, Emilie is often depressed as she is not one to be readily accepting of her gifts. This leads her to being somewhat moody as well as a person who tends to brood a lot. While mentally gifted, her fear of her powers often causes her to distance herself emotionally from others, leading to a sense of frigidity that does not truly exist.

Background: Emilie was born in a very small town. Because of this, when her mutant powers manifested the town was quick to throw her out after she'd suffocated nearly half of the town during a nightmare. Wandering the streets alone she came across a man who wished to use her mutant powers for his own means. Coaxing her with pretty words he used her abilities to rob countless buildings all along the east coast between New York and Maine before the pair was finally arrested. In juvenile hall, Emilie was quickly abused by the more physically powerful girls, and severely punished when she accidentally used her powers to melt half of another girl's face from her skull. After the incident, Emilie again used her powers to escape, this time assuming the name "Vapor".

Some time after this incident, Emilie was approached by the brotherhood of evil mutants, who wished to use her powers in their quest for mutant freedom, citing her past as a reason she should join. Desperate for family, Emilie joined them without question but was quickly deterred when she found their methods of 'liberation' too cruel for her tastes. It was after her time with the brotherhood that Emilie was approached by the x-men, who also used her past in an attempt to persuade Emilie to learn how to control her powers at their institute. Wary of the intentions of others by now, however, Emilie politely declined, choosing instead to learn how to control her powers on her own, taking to wandering about the countryside after the encounter.
